Ingredients

Chocolate Cake

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.33 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.75 teaspoons salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cups buttermilk
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups hot water

Kahlua Glaze

  • 0.5 cups Kahlua
  • 0.25 cups butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

Baking the Cake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Carefully stir in the hot water. The batter will be thin.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Making the Kahlua Glaze

  • While the cake is still warm, gently poke holes all over the top using a skewer or fork.
  • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Stir in the Kahlua and powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Pour the Kahlua glaze evenly over the warm cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
  • Let the cake cool completely before serving.

Notes

This cake is best served at room temperature. For an extra boozy kick, you can increase the Kahlua in the glaze.
