  • 4 cups fresh cherries, pitted
  • 0.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 0.5 cup milk

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine cherries, ¾ cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, and cinnamon. Stir in lemon juice.
  • Pour cherry mixture into a greased 8x8 inch baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, ½ cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in milk until just combined.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dough over the cherry filling.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
