  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2.25 tsp granulated sugar
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup coarse sea salt

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Punch down the dough and roll it out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into strips and twist into pretzel shapes.
  • Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cheddar cheese and sea salt.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

These pretzel sticks are best served warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
