Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15 recommended)
  • 0.5 medium yellow onion finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 15 oz pinto beans drained and rinsed
  • 15 oz kidney beans drained and rinsed
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 15 oz diced tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 cup beef broth chicken broth or water also works

Seasoning

  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground pepper

Toppings (Optional)

  • shredded cheddar cheese to taste
  • Fritos for serving
  • green onion chopped, for garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation Steps

  • First, heat a large stockpot over medium/high heat.
  • Then, add ground beef, yellow onion, and minced garlic and sauté for 7-10 minutes or until beef is fully browned.
  • Next, add pinto beans, kidney beans, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and maple syrup to the pot and stir to combine.
  • Add spices (chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper) and 1 cup of broth and stir to combine.
  • Bring beef chili to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes to thicken.
  • Top with your favorite toppings (cheddar cheese, Fritos, green onion) and enjoy!

Notes

This chili is excellent for meal prep and tastes even better the next day. Adjust chili powder to control spiciness.
